Dice game. Geometric portraits of celebrities by Pablo Lobato

What unites Madonna, Oscar Wilde, Clint Eastwood and the Pope? All of them are the heroes of the stunningly colorful portraits of Argentinean illustrator Pablo Lobato.

Argentinean Pablo Lobato has been painting since he was a child. While his peers were chasing a soccer ball in the street, he nibbled over drawings of superheroes and medieval knights. And by the age of twelve, Pablo had found his true calling. Then he painted a portrait of the coach of Argentina national football team Cesar Luis Menotti and realized what he wants to do for the rest of his life. Lobato recalls that in his youth, for him was very valuable support of his father: “He was always very interested in my drawings. He was an accountant, but he loved painting, we had a lot of paintings and books about art at home.

According to Lobato, after graduating from school, he briefly thought about a career as a psychologist or dentist, but very quickly gave up this thought and yet decided to devote himself to what he loved most. Pablo studied graphic design at the National University of La Plata and simultaneously took lessons in engraving and painting. For several years he worked as a designer in various magazines, but in the end he again focused on portraits. “What I love most is drawing faces, especially interesting ones. I want to find a man’s soul in the features of his face.”

Of course, it’s hard to talk about the soul, but it’s obvious that Pablo Lobato manages to masterfully convey emotions and characters with the minimum of expressive means. His talent as an illustrator made him popular not only in his native Argentina, but around the world. And when the owner of the illustration agency Anna Goodson paid attention to him, Lobato’s career took off. Since then, his portraits of famous musicians, actors, politicians and athletes have appeared with enviable regularity in international publications, including the Rolling Stone, Time, Billboard, Forbes and The New York Times.
