New Picasso? Post-neo-cubist graffiti and photographic realism by Belin

Spanish street artist Miguel Ángel Belinchón or Belin creates post-neo-cubist graffiti. The term, coined by Belin himself, pays tribute to the work of the masters who influenced his performing style – Dali, Keith Haring, Frida Kahlo. His method is an impressive mixture of Cubism and Hyperrealism.

He was born in Spain in 1979. As a child, he began to be creative in all areas (painting on walls or on paper). The artist is recognized in the international art scene for his hyper-realistic spray technique, without the need for grids, projectors, or templates.

After a trip to the homeland of Pablo Picasso, Belin was carried away by his cubist art and created a number of frescoes in which he combined the already familiar broken forms of the great Spaniard with elements of hyperrealism. Miguel Angel liked this experiment so much that the artist had already named the new style post-neo cubism and quite successfully adapted it for easel painting, that is, simply put – transferred to medium and large format canvases.

In the open-air gallery, there are many portraits of people, humanized animals, fantastic creatures, striking in detailing elements, clarity of lines, and a strange harmony of imbalances. This mixture of genres allows him to emphasize the emotional aspect of each of the works, which makes them related to the style of Picasso.

His sculptural and painting works have been exhibited throughout Spain and in more than half of the world, both in museums, galleries, and on walls. He has painted for Dockers, Carhartt, Sephora, as well as professional tattoo artists, created tattoo designs for the Los Angeles-based High Voltage Kat Von, Real Madrid footballers, DJs, models, celebrities from television, music, etc.

Unlike many of his street art colleagues, the graffiti artist uses only spray paint, oil, and pencil in his unique technique and completely refuses to use stencils and projectors.
