The most unusual modern sculptures. Part 1

People are used to the fact that monuments are erected in honor of significant events and great historical figures. However, monuments can be not only strict and official. Often these are jokes, satire, cute animals, pissing boys, and fabulous creatures. All this makes the sculpture genre very popular. Whole queues line up to many pedestals.

Expansion, New York

This beautiful sculpture depicting a slender girl sitting in a lotus position belongs to sculptor Paige Bradley. A beautiful pose, a contemplative look at the world around, and the light emanating from the inside – all this is an expression of a person’s spirituality.

At the same time, with her work, Paige Bradley tried to say that much depends on us. From the moment of birth, the world seeks to place us inside an individual container, to create a specific framework for each: the social security pole number, gender, race, profession, intelligence level. But in fact, a person can know himself only when he expands his capabilities.

Sculptures by the Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos

These sculptures boldly combine the tendencies of contemporary art and something homely, from the grandmother’s chest.

Inside each sculpture, there is a ceramic animal model wrapped in thin hand-knitted cotton lace. Among the animalistic sculptures by Joana Vasconcelos, you can find both realistic and grotesque images, for example, works inspired by the work of the famous Portuguese ceramist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro.

Love by Ukrainian sculptor Alexander Milov

A powerful sculpture that shows the inner children trapped inside the adults. It represents the frames of two adults, sitting with their backs to each other. In each of the frames, as in a dungeon, there are enclosed a small inner child, reaching out to each other. At night, the figures of children shine brightly.

A dramatic fairy made of wires, UK

Robin White creates beautiful dynamic sculptures of fairytale fairies that seem to dance with every gust of wind.

Wire and wire mesh sculptures

Using only the most common household materials, talented artists often create stunning works of art. Although wire is one of the most difficult materials to work with, modern craftsmen manage to create sculptures of incredible beauty and realism from it.

A sculptor from South England, Kendra Haste has devoted her entire life to creating unique works of wire.

Kendra is one of the most famous contemporary artists in the UK, working with the increasingly popular galvanized wire and wire mesh among sculptors.
