Michael Jordan sneakers set a new auction record

A pair of sneakers, which the basketball player wore at one of his games, was sold for $ 615 thousand at Christie’s.

Last Thursday, August 13, at Christie’s Original Air, a pair of sneakers that basketball star Michael Jordan once wore in 1985, sold for a record $ 615,000. In total, the auction, which included 11 pairs of Nike Air Jordan sneakers, brought in $ 932,000 (excluding the record result), with starting prices ranging from $ 8,700 to $ 112,000. The organizers of the auction specifically noted that about 70% of registered participants are new clients of the auction house.

With this result, Christie’s beat the previous auction record for Michael Jordan’s sneakers, set this year at Sotheby’s spring auction, when another pair of 1985 Air Jordan 1s sold for $ 560,000.

This auction once again confirmed that the sneaker is a true artifact and deserves a place in the luxury and collectibles market.

Sneakers as a collectible, and a memory item the further, the more they attract the sneakerheads to the market. Their active efforts have already led to the fact that sneakers are moving from the categories of fashion, design, and memorabilia into an independent category of collectibles, with its own market with as yet undiscovered potential.

By the way, sneakers can now be seen not only in the auction catalog but also in the museum. Europe’s largest exhibition of sneakers and sports shoes Playground – Le design des sneakers is open at the Museum of arts and crafts and design in Bordeaux, France.

They say the world belongs to those who have money. Money can buy almost everything, even the most expensive sneaker ever made. Only celebrities, business people, and people with fat bank accounts will have them. When you take the price of even one of these sneakers, you find that it can feed hundreds of homes (less fortunate people). Prices are the amount of money that a huge percentage of people in this world will never handle in their entire life. But the fact that most of us can’t afford these expensive sneakers shouldn’t stop us from admiring them.
