On 6 of June 2017, Sotheby’s will open the auction of “Russian art”. There will be presented works by such famous artists as Ilya Repin, Ivan Aivazovsky, Isaak Levitan, Alexei Bogolyubov and others.

Ilya Repin’s full-length portrait of his son Yuri and a magnificent summer landscape by Isaak Levitan, both dating from the early 1890s, come to auction for the very first time in June sale of Russian Pictures. Earlier, in 2015, at the auction, Sotheby’s sold the work of Levitan “Overgrown Pond” for 185 thousand pounds sterling. Estimate of the landscape of Isaac Ilyich this year is 1,000,000 – 1,500,000 pounds sterling.

“Portrait of Yuri Repin near the Gulf of Naples”, authored by the famous Russian painter Ilya Repin, will be presented at an auction with an estimate of 750,000 – 1,000,000 pounds.

Exceptional views by Alexei Bogoliubov and Ivan Pokhitonov which have been in private collections for over a century are also on offer, alongside Petr Konchalovsky’s monumental canvas Women Bathing under the Willows and a winter landscape by Konstantin Yuon from the collection of British politician Richard Austin Butler.

Also at the auction will be presented 6 works of one of the greatest Russian painters-seascapes – Ivan Aivazovsky. Among them, the picture “Neapolitan Bay”. The canvas “Neapolitan Bay” was written in 1843. At that time, Aivazovsky lived in Italy. The magnificent nature of this land inspired the artist to write incredibly beautiful creations. Spectators admire such a refined understanding with which the master could convey the beauty of the surrounding land. For a long time, the painting was an exhibit of the Peterhof Museum. Estimate canvas at the moment is 50,000 – 70,000 pounds.

Interesting for connoisseurs of Russian art will be the canvas of the artist Konstantin Yuon “A beautiful day. Izmaylovo ». Estimate paintings on these trades are 120,000 – 180,000 pounds.
