Artist Spotlight: Dan Huston

A selection of colourful abstract paintings by New York-based artist Dan Huston.

Dan Huston is an abstract artist from Ramsey, New Jersey. In 2014, he graduated from Bates College with a degree in Studio Art and Environmental Studies. His art is a reflection of his love for the seemingly infinite amount of biodiversity on earth. Using organic forms, he creates paintings that are overwhelming, yet natural in composition. He is currently based in NYC.

He studied Japanese art history and traditional ink painting at Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakata, Japan in the fall of 2012. His art is a reflection of his love for the seemingly infinite amount of biodiversity on earth. Using organic forms, he creates paintings that are overwhelming, yet natural in composition. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Dan explains his work by saying, “My paintings explore natural excess. When you look at pond water under a microscope, it’s overwhelmingly filled with various organisms, yet it still looks natural. I cram organic shapes of different colors and textures into my paintings in order to create an excessive, but natural composition. I’ve always been intrigued by the magnitude of biodiversity on Earth, and convey this fascination through abstract painting”.
