In Paintings Manfred Jurgens Goes Beyond Consciousness

Despite all the planning of the painting, things on canvas can sometimes develop independently, beyond the artist’s consciousness.

Manfred Jurgens is a German artist and photographer. He was born on November 19, 1956, in Mecklenburg in North-East Germany and spent his childhood there. After graduating from the Polytechnic High School, he became a seaman’s apprentice (1973-1975) at Deutsche Seereederei Rostock, which allowed him to travel around the world in his youth, to visit Sweden, the Netherlands, and Cuba. Then from 1976 to 1986, Jurgens studied painting in Mecklenburg.

From 1986 to 1989, he studied communication design at the College of Advertising and Design in Berlin, where he specialized in scientific design and photography. His current style was formed under the influence of the photo professor of this college, Manfred Paul. After graduation and until 1990, he worked as a designer in the Zoological Garden of Berlin. Since 1993, Jurgens has worked as a freelance artist and photographer.

Since 1997, Jurgens has made a series of long trips to England, Ireland, Switzerland, Italy, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and China. Since 2007, he lived and worked in Hamburg, and since 2013 in Bremen.

“Despite all the planning of the painting, things on canvas can sometimes develop independently, going beyond the artist’s consciousness.” I’m excited about every new picture and every new picture surprises me again and again, and, very often, they leave me bewildered. Momentum for the constant creation of new paintings. ”
