“My Heart is All A Flutter” (c) David Kracov

Regarding the start of Spring, and the colorful idea that the word reminds us, today I present the most colorful metal sculptures, just like the epoch demands. Meet David Kracov amazing metal sculptures. He is an American painter, animator and sculpture. He is known for his metal wall sculptures and Looney Tunes shadow boxes.

At the age of 12, after winning first place in an art competition, he became one of the youngest artists ever to be showcased in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

David started experimenting with steel, creating unique steel wall sculptures, all hand-cut from a single sheet of steel and hand painted using a vibrant color palette. In the process of exploring, Kracov discovered and developed different techniques, including the technique of metal laser cutting, which he now masters and uses virtuously throughout his artwork. David also experimented with paper cutting, tracing back to ancient far-east techniques known to be extremely delicate and accurate.”Reflections 3-D”, the creation above, is made of exactly 2,977 individual, hand-painted butterflies, and each butterfly represents the exact number of lives lost on 11 September 2001.

“Reflections 3-D”, the creation above, is made of exactly 2,977 individual, hand-painted butterflies, and each butterfly represents the exact number of lives lost on 11 September 2001.

This metal sculptures are handmade and hand painted by the designer, turning a steel form into this bright creations. The butterfly presence in each creation is David’s signature trademark. And why does he use at least one butterfly, sometimes visible and sometimes hidden?

For him each butterfly is a tribute to the delicacy and value of a child’s life.

A favorite one  is the “Book of Life”, so check here the video showing the primitive shape of the book after being painted. The video shows the sculpture in a raw metal stage, after the steel is formed and the butterflies are attached, waiting for the next stage of painting. The pages are each curved by hand and the butterflies are bent by hand, one-by-one.

Meet also Contemporary sculptures in metal by Subodh Gupta HERE!

The “Book of Love” is something special either.

David Kracov can definitely make our Spring brighter with his talent!
