Wonderful Urban Landscapes By Thomas W. Schaller

Thomas W. Schaller – a talented modern watercolorist, whose work attracts viewers’ attention with refinement and airiness. The urban landscapes written by him are full of light, they are literally permeated with sunlight, which, as if by magic, fill the life of his paintings.

“Do not paint what you see. Draw a light that animates objects “- such advice is given by the artist to those who try themselves in painting. Thomas lives and works in Los Angeles, the infatuation with watercolor came to him not immediately. He worked as an architectural designer for a long time, but once in a conversation with a friend he thought about what he lacks for self-realization. After reflection, he decided that one should not bury talent in the land and changed his profession.

The artist seeks not only to recreate what he sees, but to comprehend the very essence of objects and phenomena. It is interesting for him to pass on those “stories” to the viewer. Which can tell buildings, squares, quarters.

As for work, Thomas often used to make drawings, think through the design of buildings. However, then he had to pay attention to the right perspective, accurately calculate the scaling of the picture. Artistic painting, on the contrary, gives an opportunity to realize their creative potential, to concentrate on the emotional component. The dynamics of its water colors is given by the play of light and shadow, in the pictures one can often see people walking along the streets, which also animates the images.

Talking about the secrets of his skill, Thomas Schaller calls to draw not those objects that inspire, but in himself, an inspiration, for the artist’s task is to be able to convey the emotions and feelings that arise in him.
