Picasso’s Stepdaughter Will Open A Museum in the South of France

Catherine Hutin-Blay, the only daughter of the Pablo’s Picasso second wife Jacqueline, will open a museum named after the artist and his mother in the monastery of Aix-en-Provence in the south of France.

In Catherine’s collection, inherited from his mother, about 1,000 works by Picasso, This is more than in the museums of Paris, Antibes, Barcelona or Malaga. She also owns the castle of Château de Vauvenargues near Aix-en-Provence, where Jacqueline and Pablo Picasso are buried.

The local council of the city previously voted to sell the Hutin-Blay monastery Couvent des Prêcheurs and the adjoining church to open a museum for €11.5 million.

Initially, these buildings cost 12.2 million, but the city authorities have lowered the price because they are” very interested “in creating the museum, which, according to preliminary estimates, will attract 500,000 visitors a year,” the agent for the sale of the non-immovable Frans Daumier quotes.

The museum will open in 2021. It will have 1500 square meters of exhibition space. There will be exhibited works from the collection of Hutin-Blay, as well as the research center of Picasso and public workshops on pottery and engravings will open.
