Sigalit Landau – the most famous artist of modern Israel. People like Sigalit Landau, clearly demonstrate that there are not those who can not embrace art. And the more unpredictable, amazing the imagination will be the result of creativity, the higher it’s value.

Is it worth a certain sign of an involuntary coincidence – because most of the artist’s works are somehow connected with salt. Water and salt are the flesh and blood of the native land, Sigalit uses them in a wide variety of contexts and in many ways. The white crystalline crust changes not only the appearance, but, it seems, the very essence of things, even if it is a barbed wire – a formidable and bitter symbol, also often found in Landau’s work.

Sigalit Landau has a practice that is closely related to working with the Dead Sea. Landau uses a hypersaline body of water for both the photographic background and for the environment to suspend everyday objects, creating tightly salted sculptures. The objects that she chooses for her works are sometimes simply based on their textures and figures, while others are chosen to filter the memories handed over to the artist through her parents and grandparents.

“These objects leave the” game “useful” things “and enter a new realm – an open space of representation,” Landau told Colossal. “They lose their old features and sizes and breathe in a certain purity of spirit, are cleared of climates and intensified by emotions.”
Saturated with salt water did what would turn out to be beyond the strength of tailors and designers. The salt crystals precipitated on the fabric gradually changed its color, and then began to layer, giving a new shape. The dress, taken out two months later, looked like a snow-white wedding dress from a fairy tale, made of sugar or fluffy snow.

A new book called Salt Years, explores the Landau process, creating a new perspective for its crystals of salt crystals, video art and images created over the past 15 years. Landau’s book explores the process of “baptizing” objects in the waters of the Dead Sea, demonstrating how a salt-filled sea will breathe new life into inanimate works through behind-the-scenes photos, personal notes and essays.

You can pre-order the 288-page book through Landau’s Indiegogo campaign, and follow its progress through the book’s Facebook.
