Celebrating the Legacy of a Nation at the Sheikh Zayed National Museum

Adding to the array of Saadiyat Island museums, the Sheikh Zayed National Museum opened its doors on December 3rd. The museum is a tribute to the “father of the nation,” Sheikh Zayed, who transformed Abu Dhabi into a modern metropolis. Designed by Foster + Partners, the building’s iconic “sails,” visible across Saadiyat Island, symbolize falcon wings, deeply meaningful to Emirati culture.

Inside, the 56,000-square-meter museum features an extraordinary lobby, evoking the Guggenheim’s iconic staircase on a grander scale. The exhibitions explore the history, culture, and landscapes of the UAE from prehistoric times to today. The museum boasts a 600-meter botanical garden, Al Masar, showcasing Arabian flora.
