Art Industry News: Art Advisor Lisa Schiff Cooperates With Authorities as She Faces Multiple Lawsuits + Other Stories

NEED-TO-READ

Sculpture Missing From Museum Is Discovered – Seven months after disappeared from the North Dakota Museum of Art’s outdoor sculpture garden, it has been safely returned to the institution. Two individuals found the artwork next to a dumpster at the Southgate Casino, Bar, and Grill. “It was a shock for everyone, I think, that it came back,” said director Matthew Wallace. ()

Doris Salcedo on the Myth of ‘Postcolonialism’ – The acclaimed Colombian artist’s first major solo exhibition in Switzerland just opened at the Fondation Beyeler, and she says that her politically infused art, which commemorates those lost and forgotten, is “like a solitary liturgy.” Her work, which has often focused on the atrocities in her native Colombia, is now focused on the European migrant crisis, which she calls “the issue of today.” “People say we are living in postcolonial or post-racist times,” she added. “There’s nothing ‘post’ about it.” ()

Lisa Schiff Cooperates – The art advisor is in the process of liquidating her assets in order to help pay creditors as she faces multiple lawsuits, and is cooperating with federal and state authorities, according to court filings. Schiff’s lawyer John Cahill is representing her pro bono, and his recent motion asked the court to allow Schiff to stay the civil proceedings and deny a restraining order requested by her former client Candace Barasch.
