Art Week NYC Will Turn New York Into a Citywide Art Circuit This November

New York is set to gain a new kind of cultural calendar entry this fall. and Artforum have announced Art Week NYC, a four-day event scheduled for November 11 to November 14, 2026, that will spread art programming across the city rather than concentrate it in a single fair venue.

The initiative is being described as New York’s first dedicated Art Week. Its lineup includes public programming, neighborhood walking tours, artist talks, gallery openings, and other events designed to draw visitors into the city’s art districts. Among the central anchors is a Midtown hub programmed by and Art in America, where conversations with prominent figures in the art world will take place. will also lead editor-guided tours through major gallery neighborhoods, including the Upper East Side and Chinatown.

Artforum’s contribution will focus on neighborhood-specific gallery openings, along with a day of public programming at the New Museum. The structure suggests a deliberate shift away from the familiar art-fair model and toward a more distributed, institutionally connected format that reflects how New York’s art scene actually operates: through galleries, museums, and the dense network of people who move between them.

The announcement also arrives with a note of ambition from the organizers. Sarah Douglas, editor-in-chief of and Art in America, said the event is meant to activate the city and its cultural institutions, adding that Art Week will remind audiences that the art world is, at its heart, about community. Luke Bahrenburg, president of Art and Luxury Group at Penske Media Corporation, called it an unprecedented and transformative platform for deeper dialogue about art and its broader cultural connections. Danielle McConnell, publisher of Artforum, described the project as gallery focused and praised New York as an unparalleled ecosystem.

Previous events have occasionally been referred to informally as New York Art Week, but those gatherings were generally centered on fairs such as Frieze and the Armory Show. This new version appears designed to widen the frame, placing the city itself at the center of the experience. If it succeeds, Art Week NYC could become a useful model for how an art capital presents itself beyond the fair calendar.
