Art is impossible to describe in one word, is an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuition and desires. It’s something personal. If you are a true Creator of art, you position works, as something personal, it’s just a piece of your soul.
What we mean by beauty? If we consider beauty from the point of view of art, it is rather a means of communication between its Creator and the observer. Art is not always presented to us in the “best”. Sometimes the artist presenting their creations in the light of the realities of our lives, which will agree, is not so “rosy” coloured. It’s shown in a dark and sinister side. BUT if this creature is your emotions – this is the beauty of art.
Beauty is a measure of our emotions, it is always subjective.
The artist’s works can evoke a sense of wonder and cynicism, hope or despair, adoration or contempt. And all this – the limitless imagination of the artist. A fundamental difference between art and beauty is that art is about the Creator and the beauty depends on its admirer.
In our society there are “traditional” standards of beauty. For some artists it is a challenge and they decide to go against them. Perhaps just to prove his point. Take Picasso, Munch, Schoenberg. They have made a stand against these norms in their art. Otherwise their art is like all other art: its only function is to be experienced, appraised, and understood (or not).
Beauty is something that makes you feel a sense of appreciation and aesthetic pleasure. Beauty – not art, but rather art can be beautiful! Only the object itself (the painting of a beautiful landscape, or Symphony, performed orkesta) makes you feel the beauty of the experienced emotion. Not always positive, you can be grust, unpleasant, the artist can force you to empathize, to think about things which you do not want. Emotions create the art, art create – beauty.
Art emerged around 50,000 years ago, long before cities and civilisation, yet in forms to which we can still directly relate. The wall paintings in the Lascaux caves, which so startled Picasso, have been carbon-dated at around 17,000 years old. Art is a means of communication between people of all nationalities, without knowledge of the language outside of time. And while there is such a variety of works of art, until there will be tolerance and respect for tradition all over the world.
In our time, art is a commodity, it is inevitable. Money motivates artist for creations. The job of the user to maintain the high art from the commercial. After all, true beauty is stored in the present art for the soul.
In other words, nobody, including the art critic, should be able to tell the individual what is beautiful and what is not. The world of art is one of a constant tension between preserving individual tastes and promoting popular acceptance.
