Color and memory combine and inspire the abstract paintings of Brian Rutenberg (b.1965), who probes and illuminates aspects of the coastal landscape in vibrant oil paintings displaying textural surfaces with his distinctive muscular brushwork. Now on view at Forum Gallery is Banner of the Coast (Thunderbrunt) (36×55”) from Rutenberg’s recent series focusing on the sensory experience and exuberance of his birthplace, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where the pastoral beauty of the coastal lowlands meets the neon, architecture, and attractions of the town itself.
“I am the product of one place that has two faces. Two landscapes, one natural and one artificial, collided head-on at breakneck speed, secreting a liquid that was bright and combustible. That liquid has been the jet fuel for my paintings…” – Brian Rutenberg, 2022
A new oil on paper by Brian Rutenberg is also on view, and we are always glad to show you additional works upon request.

Forum Gallery also wishes to congratulate Brian Rutenberg on the recent appearance of his painting on the Nasdaq building in Times Square!
