Castello di Rivoli Museum says director Christov-Bakargiev will leave at the end of 2023

Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art in Turin said in a statement its current director, Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, will retire aged 66 at the end of this year after more than 20 years of service to the museum, which she has led since 2016. The museum is seeking a replacement to start in January 2024.

Christov-Bakargiev has curated a wide range of exhibitions for the museum, including shows devoted to Anne Imhof and William Kentridge in 2020, an exhibition about Beeple in 2022, and shows featuring the work of Hito Steyerl and Giorgio di Chirico in 2018. Together with Marianna Vecellio, she curated the museum’s current exhibition, Artists in a Time of War. In the second half of 2023, the museum is showing a major exhibition devoted to Michelangelo Pistoletto to mark his 90th birthday.

She is best-known for serving as artistic director of the highly acclaimed 13th edition of Documenta, the five-yearly contemporary art show in Kassel, Germany, in 2012.
