Erewhon Is Opening at LACMA as the Museum Debuts Its New David Geffen Galleries

A Los Angeles grocery chain best known for its wellness-driven menu and expensive smoothies is heading into one of the city’s most closely watched museum openings. Erewhon will open a location at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art as part of the launch of the museum’s new David Geffen Galleries, the Peter Zumthor-designed building set to welcome members on April 19, 2026, and the public on May 4.

The café will occupy the W.M. Keck Plaza, the northeast pavilion of the new structure, where it will face Alexander Calder’s recently reinstalled “Three Quintains (Hello Girls).” The placement gives the project an unusually visible setting: a retail outpost positioned directly within the visual field of one of LACMA’s signature outdoor works.

LACMA director and CEO Michael Govan framed the partnership as part of the museum’s broader opening season, saying in a statement that Erewhon is “a Los Angeles icon” and that “a moment of respite at Erewhon at LACMA, surrounded by public art, will be a vital part of the LACMA experience.”

The menu is expected to draw from Erewhon’s familiar offerings, including organic coffee and matcha, fresh pastries, signature smoothies, cold-pressed juices, grab-and-go meals, and organic snacks. Among the likely attention magnets is the $21 Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie, a viral item that debuted in 2022 as the Hailey Bieber Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie before the chain later removed Bieber’s name.

A press release says the location will be “available through the summer,” leaving open whether the project is a temporary pop-up or a test run for something more permanent. Erewhon owners Tony and Josephine Antoci called the collaboration their first museum partnership and described it as a celebration of Los Angeles.

The pairing reflects a broader shift in museum culture, where food, retail, and architecture increasingly shape the visitor experience alongside the art itself. At LACMA, that convergence will now include one of the city’s most recognizable grocery brands.
