Erte’s 1920s works in the Lanvin Spring 2021 collection

The Lanvin Spring 2021 collection, created by Bruno Sialelli during the isolation period, was shown last week in the historical setting of the Palais Idéal castle, near Leon. The collection used works by Roman de Tirtoff, known under the pseudonym Erte, a Russian artist and sculptor of the Art Deco era who worked in Paris and Hollywood.

The main focus of the new collection and the source of the designer’s inspiration are Erte’s sketches, created by the artist for the brand, and kept in his archives since the 1920s.

Paying tribute not only to the spirit but also to the fashion of the 1920s, Sialelli used in his models a large number of scarves decorated with both elements and full Erte designs. Accessories – classic gloves, earrings, sunglasses, and hats, which are reminiscent of the glamor of the 1920s, are also intended to emphasize the style of the 1920s. Even the buttons used for the models of the spring collection were shaped by the designer reminiscent of the Lanvin perfume bottle released in 1927.

Wishing to avoid a rigid gender division in his models, Sialelli used accessories and decor by Erte (whose style is associated primarily with femininity and grace) in both women and men models – on the hems of dresses and skirts, collars, and cuffs of shirts and, of course, scarves.

Thus, the designer not only pays tribute to the heritage of the Russian artist, who has not lost its aesthetic value over the past hundred years but also to modern trends, according to which clothes should not necessarily have a division into men and women.

The Lanvin fashion house has combined two collections: Resort 2021 and men’s spring/summer 2021. The lookbook and video were filmed at the Postman Cheval’s Ideal Palace. It was built from stones collected during the delivery of letters by an ordinary postman. He had neither income nor architectural education, and it took 33 years to build it.
