George Condo Returns to Hauser & Wirth for 2027 Paris and Palo Alto Shows
George Condo is heading back to Hauser & Wirth, less than a year after parting ways with the gallery. The two sides will reunite in 2027 for exhibitions of new and historical works at Hauser & Wirth’s spaces in Paris and Palo Alto, a move that also restores the gallery’s worldwide representation of the artist.
The announcement arrives after Condo’s 2025 career survey at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris and follows a swift reshuffling of his gallery relationships. In November, Condo left Hauser & Wirth after six years to join Sprüth Magers and Skarstedt, both of which have long histories with the artist. He first exhibited with Monika Sprüth in 1984, and Skarstedt represented him from 2004 until he joined Hauser & Wirth in 2019.
A spokesperson confirmed that Hauser & Wirth has resumed representing Condo worldwide, while Condo will continue his relationship with Sprüth Magers. The arrangement suggests not a clean break from his recent past, but a widening of it — a familiar pattern in the upper tier of the contemporary market, where major artists often maintain overlapping dealer ties across regions and programs.
Condo, for his part, framed the 2027 exhibitions as a return to places with distinct resonance. He said Paris has inspired him for decades, while Palo Alto appeals to him as “the birthplace of technology.” Marc Payot, president of Hauser & Wirth, called the projects “the next chapter in our collaboration” and described Condo as “a true pioneer.”
The artist’s market remains robust. His auction record stands at $6.8 million for “Force Field” (2010), set in 2020, and museums including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Centre Pompidou hold his work in their collections. For an artist whose paintings have long balanced cartoonish distortion with psychological unease, the new exhibitions will likely sharpen attention on both the historical depth and the continuing reach of his practice.
