Anne Imhof Will Stage Her First Asian Solo Exhibition in Hong Kong in 2027

German artist Anne Imhof (b. 1978) is set to bring her work to Hong Kong in 2027 for a solo exhibition described as her first in Asia, with a program spanning multiple media and featuring a new commission.

The announcement adds a significant new chapter to the career of the Golden Lion-winning artist, whose practice has moved fluidly between performance, installation, and image-making, often unfolding over extended durations and with an atmosphere that can feel both intimate and coolly choreographed. Imhof’s rise has also been propelled by a public-facing persona that has helped build a devoted following, alongside high-profile collaborations with fashion houses Burberry and Balenciaga.

While details of the Hong Kong presentation have not yet been disclosed, the exhibition is expected to draw on the breadth of Imhof’s output, which has been presented at major venues in Europe and the US, including projects in Amsterdam and at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.

In New York, Imhof recently mounted a three-hour performance and installation at the Park Avenue Armory titled “Doom: House of Hope.” Discussing that work, she described it as a “love letter to everyone who shares the belief that love is the ultimate universal power,” adding that she sees love as “much more powerful than racist and misogynist politics, laws against women, gay and trans people, and all minorities.”

That statement offers a useful lens for understanding the stakes of Imhof’s practice: beneath the controlled surfaces and stylized staging, her work often insists on the body as a site of vulnerability, solidarity, and resistance. A first solo exhibition in Asia, anchored by a new commission, positions Hong Kong as the next platform for an artist whose projects have increasingly operated at the scale of contemporary spectacle while remaining tethered to urgent social questions.
