It is clarified that the unknown not only put the phrase “Dickens – racist” in black paint but also painted over the sign indicating the street named after the British writer. The police said that they have not yet received complaints about the desecration of the building.

It is noted that although the novelist in his works spoke in support of the poor and oppressed sections of the population, in his work, he often showed stereotypical ideas about races. Despite the fact that Dickens advocated the abolition of slavery, he also supported the colonial policy of the British Empire.

The Charles Dickens Museum in London is housed in a Gregorian-style building with terraces. The famous writer lived in this house since March 1837. This is the only surviving house in which the writer lived. Located on four floors, the Charles Dickens Museum collection contains a collection of paintings, rare editions, manuscripts, original furniture, and other items related to the life and work of Dickens.

The museum has a portrait of the writer, known as “Dickens’s Dream,” painted by R.W. Buss. This unfinished portrait depicts the writer in his office, surrounded by the numerous characters he created.

Earlier in June, vandals in Bristol desecrated two gravestones at the burial place of a slave to Scipio Africanus after protesters against racism demolished and dumped a statue of slave trader Edward Colston into the sea.
