The grandiose installation “Narcissus Garden” by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama arrived in the USA. The famous work will soon be exhibited at The Momentary art center. Here the artist presented its expanded version, which includes more than 900 mirror spheres installed in the open space.
This installation was first exhibited in 1966 and has undergone many changes since then. It was even included in the program at the Venice Biennale. For the international exhibition, Kusama installed near the spheres of the sign “Your Narcissism for Sale”. The artist herself wore a kimono and sold the spheres separately.
Now the artwork of the legendary artist is being installed for the first time in the open air. Thus, the curators decided to reveal the artist’s idea more precisely – each sphere symbolizes human narcissism, but together they represent an ideal society in which each member helps and supports others.
