Peter Lindbergh’s latest book Untold Stories

Two years before his death, photographer Peter Lindberg first smoked his own exhibition, collecting more than 140 photos from his personal archive since the 80s. It includes previously unseen photos of legendary supermodels Claudia Schiffer, Karen Elson, Milla Jovovich, actress Uma Thurman, and others. The Lindbergh: Untold Stories exhibition opened on February 5th at the Kunstpalast Museum in Düsseldorf and will run until June 1st.

Peter Lindbergh’s career spanned the last four decades, and his work has defined an era of fashion photography, beginning with the revolutionary photography of ascending models in the late 1980s for the American Vogue. One of his final projects was to shoot the cover of British Vogue in September 2019, for which he was invited by the editor of this issue, the Duchess of Sussex.

The opening of the exhibition Untold Stories is accompanied by the publication of the book of the same name, which will appear in February in the Taschen publishing house. The book tells about Lindberg’s experience in organizing the exhibition. The main value of the book is that it is full of notes and sketches and gives an idea of the photographer’s creative process. “When I first saw my photos on the wall in the gallery when we first discussed the exhibition, it scared me, but it was also a pleasure,” said Lindberg. – It was so hard to face who I really am.
