Met Gala Protest at the Met Uses Bottles to Target Jeff Bezos

The Met Gala’s polished surface was interrupted by a pointed protest inside the museum itself. Hundreds of bottles described as appearing to contain urine were found at the Met during the event, according to the New York Post, which said the scene added another layer of controversy to a night already defined by billionaire visibility.

The protest was claimed by Everybody Hates Elon, a UK-based anti-billionaire group that said it had placed the bottles to criticize Jeff Bezos, who was serving as gala host, and to draw attention to allegations about Amazon warehouse labor conditions. Those allegations center on claims that workers feel pressured to pee in bottles rather than take bathroom breaks.

In Instagram posts, the group also linked the stunt to Amazon’s tax practices and Bezos’s wealth. One display reportedly labeled a cluster of plastic bottles a “Met Gala VIP toilet,” with text that read, “Installed in honor of Met Gala chair Jeff Bezos. Go ahead, it’s good enough for his staff.” The group later added a footnote clarifying that the bottles were “Not real piss obvs.”

The Met Gala has long been a showcase for fashion, patronage, and celebrity power. This protest used its own theatrical language to turn the spotlight back on labor, wealth, and the politics of public spectacle.
