Shop the Show: Shop the Show: Pop Art and Street Art Collide in a Vibrant Miami Gallery Exhibition

What You Need to Know: Based in the heart of the Miami Design District, Rosenfeld Gallery is presenting “Pop Meets Graffiti,” a group exhibition highlighting the visual parallels and common influences between Pop art and street art. Featuring works by such artists as Tom Wesselmann, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, and more, the show presents the opportunity to explore and discover iconic works from these two influential movements. On view through March 31, 2023, “Pop Meets Graffiti traces the impact Pop art had on early street art, and how both continue to influence contemporary artists today.

Why We Like It: Pop art and street art are two of the most celebrated and influential movements of the past century, and this exhibition underscores how the two styles informed one another. Examples from artists like Pop art pioneer Tom Wesselmann—whose large-scale, steel-cut (1988) is emblematic of his bold use of color and line—are juxtaposed by nearly contemporaneous works by Keith Haring, whose work straddles the divide between Pop art and street art and shares a similarly bold aesthetic sensibility. In keeping with the subject of the show, Haring has numerous works included, many of which contain some of his most well-known motifs, such as the elongated baby or barking dog.

According to the Gallery: “Pop art, with its vibrant color and various mediums, was integral to the birth of the graffiti movement. It opened the eyes and minds of the youth that become the street artists who brought graffiti into the studio. We have on view examples of this expressive movement in all mediums from editions, paper, canvas, and sculpture to excite the mind and dazzle the eye.”
