Beijing, China (February 2023) – Spanish artist and Beijing resident Pere Ibañez is releasing his latest photography series, ‘Dream On, We’re Almost Home’. On the launch date, scheduled for 24 February 2023, the series will be available as an ebook on iTunes and Kindle and in print at major book sellers in the US, Europe and Asia.
‘Dream On, We’re Almost Home’ is a project created during the COVID lockdowns in China. Due to the movement restrictions and challengesP faced during this period, the new series had to undergo an alternative creation process.
A mixture of techniques, from digital painting to photo restoration helped achieve this nostalgic photographic series that drink heavily from the surrealism movement of the 30s.
Events for this new works started last October and exhibitions are scheduled for the rest of the year, kicking off just after the book’s release with a solo exhibition with HMVC Gallery New York. A documentary interview titled ‘Behind the dream’ has been produced as well and will be released shorty after the book.
‘Dream On, We’re Almost Home’ is the seventh photo series released by the artist and has earned two international awards: ‘Voices of Tomorrow Art Award’ and ‘Faces of Peace Art Prize’; also, is nominated to Tokyo Art Prize, Contemporary Expressions Award and PIAB Best Artist Award.
Pere Ibañez uses his background in filmmaking to create cinematic experiences through photography, illustrating human frailty and strength. This vivid photo series drifts far from the dark nature of the artist’s early work to embodying poetry and surrealism wholeheartedly. It is a deep dive into the subconscious and the world of dreams, whether they interpreted as portals or as coping mechanisms while dwelling on grief after the loss of loved ones. Ibañez currently lives in Beijing, China, where he has his studio.
