The New ‘Starry Night’ Lego Set Is a Sold-Out Collector’s Hit—Score Your Own Through StockX

Art lovers know to expect sold-out gallery shows. But what about sold-out Lego kits? Such is the case with Lego’s Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night edition. The kit, which allows enthusiasts to build a recreation of the 1889 Post-Impressionist masterpiece, has been flying off the shelves since it came out in May of this year. The kit came to market through a unique avenue; the theme was proposed as a set by Truman Cheng, a PhD student from Hong Kong, through the company’s Lego Ideas system that allows people to suggest ideas for potential kits.

The product is the unique collaboration between Lego; the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where the original work resides; and the Vincent van Gogh Estate, which has newly addressed the artist’s work to a fresh audience by converting the renowned painting into a tangible, collectible form.

For those itching to get their hands on a set (did we mention that it comes with a Lego figurine of Van Gogh at his easel?), the online marketplace StockX promises to be the best bet. A global platform for trading and consuming covetable items, StockX specializes in limited-edition sneakers, apparel, accessories, electronics, and collectibles.

“Because of this product’s cultural richness, it drew high demand and sold out immediately upon its release at the retail level. StockX brings accessibility to items like this so that everyone can have a chance to obtain them, even if they missed out on the initial release,” StockX told Artnet.

The Starry Night Set consists of 2,316 pieces and comes with a mounting hook to hang your masterpiece on a wall once complete. Lego employed a 3D plan to help capture the depth of the swirling clouds and long, rolling hills. Buyers can rest assured of the legitimacy of their purchase: StockX prides itself on its rigorous authentication process and market-based pricing model.
