An exhibition of works on paper from the collection, hosted by Pace, Gagosian, and Acquavella Galleries, will open in the Hamptons on August 12, 2020.
After months of quarantine, the works from the collection of the late Donald Marron will again be available for purchase next week. On August 12, 2020, the exhibition and sale of works on paper from the Marron collection, organized in collaboration with Gagosian and Acquavella galleries, will open in the new exhibition space of the Pace Gallery in East Hampton. The exhibition will include 38 works:
Other authors of the exhibited works of art include Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy, Fernand Leger, Ellsworth Kelly, Damien Hirst, Jasper Johns, Bryce Marden, and others. According to the head of the Pace gallery Mark Glimcher, the prices for the works presented at the exhibition will vary from $ 100 thousand to $ 3 million.
The selection of works included in this exhibition is only part of the vast collection of graphics that Donald Marron has been forming over several decades. As far as we know, at the moment, the galleries have at least 145 works of art by various authors made on paper.
Recall that at the beginning of 2020, Marron’s collection of 850 items was estimated at $ 450 million. However, it is obvious that this estimate was too conservative. After the union of the three largest contemporary art galleries bypassed the auction houses in the struggle for the right to sell the Marron collection, it became clear that the market valued items from his collection much higher. At the very first exhibition and sale of paintings from the Marron collection, organized in February 2020, 10 days from the date of its opening, an impressive result of $ 300 million was achieved.
Returning to the sale of the Marron collection, the galleries focused on items of the middle price segment. It is quite natural in the current situation. If the results of the sale of the second half of August meet their expectations, perhaps, in the fall, we will see new price records associated with the name of Marron, who is called one of the most passionate and erudite collectors of art of the XX and XXI centuries.
