Wet Paint in the Wild: Sebastian Gladstone Shows Off His New Gallery and Bops Around L.A. With His Dog Mustard

Most things in my week start with a breakfast at Clark Street Diner with Arty Nelson. The space was previously known as 101 Coffee Shop, made famous in the movie . Arty is such a regular here that they usually bring over his iced latte when he sits down. We always peruse the menu like something new will be ordered and then both order the “diner breakfast.”

Taking my dog Mustard to the vet. He has terrible car anxiety and drools everywhere whenever he gets into the car, but we still love him. In another, less serious world, I would have called my gallery “Mustard Gallery.” Maybe that’s a Euro outpost someday

Visiting Tristan Unrau’s studio ahead of his show with us next year. Jonas Wood came by to get a sneak peak too. Tristan and I actually met working for Jonas, and this is all very funny and full-circle now.

Now to Teresa Tolliver’s studio to check in with curator Amanda Kruglaik.

More dog content. Here’s Mustard inspecting the Frank Lloyd Wright house “La Miniatura.” I am moving out of Pasadena next month, and I have lived next to this house for 2 years. I will miss this pretty street and especially miss snooping on this house. Mustard thinks it smells ok.

And now our beautiful new gallery is done, and the paintings are up! Thank you to Samantha Rosenwald for putting together such a wonderful exhibition.

Here we are together in front of her painting. Samantha’s mom actually took this photo, and was wearing a hand-embroidered shirt that said “Mother of the Artiste.”

Marc Selwyn came by fashionably early to say hi, but also to do some deals in my office. He has a fantastic Frank Bowling show up right now—if you are in L.A. go see it.

Lots of other people came too.

A quick stop at the new gallery. The last week of painting, polishing, etc. was absolutely insane. I am so grateful to the amazing crew we had who pulled this off.

Then we went to the Dresden for the after-party, which was quite fun. Here you can see Daniel Rosenwald, Samantha’s brother, winking. The food ordering was hilarious pandemonium because so many people were ordering food and drinks, and moving around on the patio. Dishes would come out and it was a real roulette wheel of who got what. The Dresden threw a great party for us, thank you to all the staff who put up with us!
