There are typos and there are typos… oops, Georgia O’Keeffe’s last name was misspelled on a concourse-level wall in the Long Island Rail Road’s new Grand Central Madison station in New York. The second “f” in the late artist’s surname was missing from the attribution panel inscribed with a quote from the artist once described as the “undisputed doyenne of American painting”.
“We clearly f-ed this one up and it’s being fixed,” communications director for the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), Tim Minton, told Bloomberg.
Hyperallergic meanwhile spotted that the artist’s name has been removed completely from the wall. O’Keeffe’s quote at the new $11.1bn train station—“One can’t paint New York as it is, but rather as it is felt”—references her painting series from the 1920s which includes works such as New York Street With Moon (1925).
