Artist Pol Kurucz Will Present The Exhibition Of “Philosophical” Covers For Fashion Magazines

Pol Kurucz’s “Uncovers” photo series is a Franco-Russo-Brazilian co-production that pokes fun at conventional magazine covers. Rather than posing to sell, the Uncovers models follow their own aesthetic and behavioral norms to tell a colorful story. Uncovers aims to introduce people to the fashion industry to reflect on the lack of freedom in the representation of women in the commercial publications.

The shootings took place in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo during Pol’s transition phase from the fine art world to the more polished and glamorous universe of fashion magazines. The series was a delicate balancing act between the amazement, the deep respect and the irony that the fashion industry inspires to the photographer. This unpublished photo series will be part of Pol Kurucz’s upcoming exhibitions.

Pol Kurucz is a Franco-Hungarian photographer and the founder of the color art collective, based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2015, he launched the ongoing and fascinating project ‘ZONES’, split into series of photos each defined by a distinctive atmosphere, theme, and message. All of the shootings take place in the color studio in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, in the apocalyptic suburban dump, palaces and other epic locations in São Paulo and Rio.

Inspired by actual social issues like feminism, Brazil’s underground drag scene, African culture, local fashion designers and artists, ZONES is challenging contemporary values and the concept of normality.

All models, celebrities, and actors featured are connected to Rio’s militant anarcho-humanist movements and have heavily influenced the conception of characters and scenes.

The consciously disharmonious connecting of glamour and trash is the result of Pol’s theatrical aesthetics mixed with the consistent use of provocation and contrast.

Central to the collective’s principles is questioning normality and exposing the dangers of forced conformity. Pol comes from a multi-minority family and has always had an inner urge to speak against dogmas, preconception, majority bias, something he shares with local artists and art producers.
