In London on 6-7 of June, the world’s leading auction houses will present Russian art. Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Bonhams and MacDougall’s auctions display lots of Russian art, namely works by Faberge, Konstantin Korovin, Isaak Levitan, Ilya Repin, Ivan Aivazovsky, Vasily Kandinsky, as well as items belonging to the imperial family, including items of dishes, gold, and silver.
Ilya Repin’s full-length portrait of his son Yuri and a magnificent summer landscape by Isaak Levitan, both dating from the early 1890s, come to auction Sotheby’s for the very first time in our June sale of Russian Pictures. The most expensive work of Isaak Levitan “Summer” is estimated by the auction house Sotheby’s at 1,000,000 — 1,500,000 GBP.
Many lots, the origin of which is associated with the Russian imperial family, will appear on the market for the first time.
The auction catalog includes almost 30 works of Faberge. One of the top lots will be a table clock made of gilded silver, decorated with enamel and engraving. They were created around 1914 and are estimated at GBP 300,000 – 500,000.
Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Bonhams are among the three largest international auction houses. The auction house MacDougall’s specializes in Russian art. The main auctions of Russian painting and works of art in London are held twice a year – early summer and late autumn.
Interest collectors to Russian art over the past six months has grown significantly, and external political factors did not affect the demand, said the head of the British auction house MacDougall’s William McDougall. He recalled that last year’s auction was one of the largest and most successful during the existence of the auction house: five world records for open sales were delivered.
“The market of Russian art is protected from current economic and political difficulties,” McDougall said.
