“Multi-disciplinary artist Crystal Wagner creates deceptively natural-looking environments with paper and other materials purchased from dollar stores and office supply chains. Whether working on drawings, installations or printmaking, Wagner begins all of her work with an organic mark, allowing shapes to emerge and multiply like moss or fungus from another planet.” -Nastia Voynovskaya, Hi Fructose Contemporary Art Magazine, 2013
Wagner’s interest in combining 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional forms, alternative use of materials, and hybrid approaches to printmaking, and massive site-specific installations, have led to her artwork being exhibited extensively in the U.S and abroad. Currently you can find countless features on her work: New York Times, Architectural Digest, Artnet, Hi Fructose etc.

Paroxysm by Crystal Wagner
Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Fort Wayne Indiana
August 5 – October 28, 2016
The gallery is pleased to announce a new installation and solo show of wall-mounted work by represented artist Crystal Wagner, now on view at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art through October 28, 2016.
Paroxysm is a pseudo-bio-generator that redefines the space that it lives in by exploring elemental forms and structures that are both familiar and foreign to us in our modern landscape. It probes the dichotomy between organic shapes found in nature and the straight, hard edges that exemplify people’s architectural environments in their everyday spaces.
Included in the show is an installation titled Spire, which reaches 40ft to the dynamic skylight system of the museum. This piece investigates the structural dialog associated with architecture as the substrate and further expands on the artist’s interests in conditional growth, relationships between manufactured and organic worlds, and the architectural spaces we inhabit.
This exhibit is curated by Adjunct Curator of Contemporary Art Josef Zimmerman.
