Galleries from 39 countries will participate this year at Frieze Art Fairs
Fairs organizers Frieze London and Frieze Masters have named 276 galleries from 39 countries that will participate in its upcoming exhibitions in 2021. Both of them are scheduled for October 13-17 at Regent’s Park in the British capital.
These will be the first Art Frieze fairs to be held in London since 2019 and will be accompanied by exhibition-linked online viewing rooms and an enhanced digital program. Unlike Art Basel in Switzerland, which will take place at the end of September, Frieze did not say if it plans to help arrange stands for international exhibitors.
The art fair visitors will be required to provide proof of vaccination or recent negative test for Covid-19. Considered the most important exhibitions in Europe, Frieze Art Fairs were still able to attract large galleries, despite continued restrictions on international travel and concerns about an increase in the number of Covid varieties.
Among the participants in the Frieze London main section are mega galleries such as Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace, and David Zwirner, as well as other large enterprises such as David Kordansky, Lehmann Maupin, Galerie Lelong & Co., Mendes Wood DM., Victoria Miro, Sprüth Magers, and White Cube.
“The list of participating galleries confirms that London is one of the most exciting capitals in the art world and has survived the pandemic with enormous resilience,” said Frieze London Artistic Director Eva Langreth. This year, the art fair also welcomes a new generation of curators whose programs will spark important conversations that not only reflect this moment of change and transformation but also look forward to what the future of the art world might be like.
Frieze London will also include three additional sections. One of them, called Focus, is intended for galleries under 12 years old, including:
Arcadia Missa;
Instituto de Visión;
Edouard Malingue Gallery;
Proyectos Ultravioleta;
Tiwani Contemporary.
Another edition called Editions is aimed at dealers specializing in cartoon goods, including Cristea Roberts Gallery and Paragon. Contemporain de Bordeaux in France will focus on the work of international artists whose practices focus on the idea of destroying all existence. Contributing galleries include Jhaveri Contemporary, Tanya Leighton, Galerie Gregor Staiger, and T293.
At Frieze Art Fair Masters, Acquavella, Cardi Gallery, Galleria Continua, Stephen Friedman, Garth Greenan Gallery, Kasmin, Kukje Gallery, Lévy Gorvy, Ortuzar Projects, and Thaddaeus Ropac are among those lining up to be shown in the main sector of the fair. The Spotlight section, curated by Laura Hauptman, Executive Director of the Drawing Center, is dedicated to solo presentations by under-recognized artists and will include works by Huguette Caland (in Kane Griffin), Buford Delaney (Michael Rosenfeld Gallery), Agnes Denes (ACB), Nancy Graves (Sisson and Benethier) Nicola L. (Alison Jacques) and Feliciano Centurion (Cecilia Brunson Projects and Gallery Millan).
The art fair will also feature a new section called “Stand Out”, which will collect works and objects from different time periods; it will be hosted by Luke Syson, director of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.
