First organized in 1970, every year on this date nearly 200 countries around the world celebrate Earth Day to encourage ongoing awareness of and commitment to environmental protection. Climate change and environmental preservation are extremely prevalent issues that face the world today, and artists everywhere have drawn inspiration from nature and the potential futures that the earth may face should they not be addressed.

Here at the Artnet Gallery Network, not only are we always exploring new art and artists, we also look at common themes and trends that crop up—which is easy to do as the network features thousands of artworks from every corner of the globe. To mark Earth Day, we discovered 13 artworks that engage with climate change, consider the state of the earth, or generally inspire reflection on environmental issues.

Whether you’re looking for more nature or climate-informed art, or interested in exploring specific artists or movements, you can always continue your search anytime by browsing the Artnet Gallery Network.
