Visitors to Miami Beach for this year’s Art Basel don’t even need to leave their hotels to view the art. As part of the city’s third-annual “No Vacancy” competition, 12 Florida artists have installed site-specific installations at 12 of Miami Beach’s top hotels, including the Royal Palm, Faena Hotel, the Fontainebleau, and Loews Miami Beach.

Each artist received $10,000 to realize their project. On December 8, at the close of the fair and the exhibition, two lucky winners will be awarded either a $25,000 juried prize, selected by local arts professionals, or a $10,000 public prize (viewers can vote for their favorites online).

Even those not staying at the participating hotels might decide to make a tour of the installations, which are open to the public.

“I invite everyone to experience Miami Beach’s renowned hotels as destination art spaces,” said Miami Beach mayor Dan Gelber in a statement. “What a spectacular opportunity for this diverse group of local artists to unleash their creativity and talent.”

The artists were chosen by members of the City of Miami Beach Art in Public Places Committee, the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority, and the Cultural Arts Council.
