Thispresentation,astatementbycuratorsArushiKapoor&DannySierraDominguez,highlightstheimportanceofvisibilityandrepresentationofwomenartistsinanindustrytraditionallydominatedbymen.TheGreekmythnarratesPersephone’sabductionbyHadesintotheunderworld.Persephoneultimatelyseizescommandofherdestinyandassumestheroleoftheunderworldqueen.Persephone’sjourneysignifiesadescentintothesomberaspectsoflifesuchasdarkness,winter,andmortality,whileheremergencebacktothesurfacerepresentstherebirth,growth,andrejuvenationofspring.Theworksinthisexhibitemphasizetheimportanceofagencyandself-determinationforthefeminine.
