What the Hell Is That Weird Painting Donald Trump Just Posted?

Donald Trump’s latest Truth Social post has drawn attention to a print that compresses American history, political symbolism, and a distinctly AI-era visual language into a single crowded frame.

The image is identified as Forged in Freedom by Ray Simon, an artist based in Youngstown, Ohio. Simon says he is offering 250 prints of the work at $250 apiece. In the composition, George Washington appears alongside soldiers raising the flag at Iwo Jima, an astronaut on the moon, the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, and Trump himself. The scene also includes a colonial figure, a child, and a humanoid Optimus robot.

Simon’s own description casts the robot as a bridge between the country’s founding and its future. He also says the work is a tribute to the nation on the eve of the Semiquincentennial. Elsewhere on his website, Simon claims that a portrait of Trump was displayed at Mar-a-Lago and that Trump called it the best painting he had ever seen of himself, though that assertion could not be immediately verified.

The artist’s site presents a broader catalog of patriotic and political imagery, including works featuring Charlie Kirk, bald eagles, Jesus Christ, and veterans of the Marines and the Navy. It also lists The Awakening, another Trump portrait, for $4,547.

What makes Forged in Freedom especially striking is not just its iconography, but its visual overload. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Abraham Lincoln are also said to appear in the print, with Simon describing them as walking toward a church. A Bible is shown on the table where the Declaration of Independence is being signed, which Simon frames as a symbol of “one nation under God.”

The image’s dense, synthetic look has the feel of AI-generated art, even though Simon’s website does not explicitly describe it that way. That ambiguity may be part of its appeal: a patriotic picture that borrows the language of history painting while reflecting the visual confusion of the present.
