After the pandemic disrupted the art world’s exhibition calendar, these events gradually resumed last year, with some of them permanently changing dates. Two major fairs have opened in Asia this year: ART SG, which opened the art fair calendar last week in Singapore, and Tokyo Gendai.

Below we will review the most important art industry events of this year.

Sydney Contemporary

Location: Carriageworks

General Admission Days: Thursday, September 7–Sunday, September 10

Australia’s largest art fair celebrates its 10th anniversary with this edition. Bringing together galleries from across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, the art world event hosts more than 90 exhibitors.

Frieze London and Frieze Masters

Location: Regent’s Park

General Admission Days: Friday, October 13–Sunday, October 15

Frieze’s hallmark contemporary fair in London will return this October. It is going to run simultaneously with Frieze Masters, which is dedicated to work made before 2000. This Frieze will likely host around 160 galleries.

Paris+, par Art Basel

Location: Grand Palais Éphémère

General Admission Days: Thursday, October 19–Sunday, October 22

After its surprise coup against Paris’s FIAC in 2022 for the dates of the Grand Palais, Art Basel launched a successful and largely praised first edition of Paris+ this past October. The art world event will likely serve as Paris’s main art fair, an important status because the French capital has seen a rise in art commerce post-Brexit. It is currently unknown whether this trend will continue into 2023. But during a press conference dedicated to its opening, the director of Paris + Clement Delepin promised that the art world event would only get better in the next editions.

The Art Show, New York

Location: Park Avenue Armory

General Admission Days: Thursday, November 2–Sunday, November 5

This November, the Art Dealers Association of America Art Show will be held for the 35th time this year. The carefully curated fair typically draws around 75 exhibitors from within the industry group, and its evening VIP performance once again benefits the community of Henry Street.

Artissima, Turin

Location: OVAL Lingotto Fiere

General Admission Days: Friday, November 3–Sunday, November 5

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Artissima, one of Italy’s most important art industry events. Each edition features around 170 exhibitors; this one will be the second under the direction of Luigi Fassi.

Art Cologne

Location: Cologne Fair grounds, Koelnmesse, Hall 11

General Admission Days: Friday, November 17–Sunday, November 19

The world’s oldest art world event celebrates its 56th edition this year. The fair typically features around 190 exhibitors, including a mix of some of Germany’s most important galleries, and blue-chip international enterprises.

Art Basel Miami Beach, Untitled Art, and NADA Miami

  • Art Basel Miami Beach

Location: Miami Beach Convention Center

General Admission Days: Thursday, December 7–Saturday, December 9

  • Untitled Art

Location: Miami Beach, at 12th Street and Ocean Drive

General Admission Days: Tuesday, December 5–Saturday, December 9

  • NADA Miami

Location: Ice Palace Studios

General Admission Days: To be confirmed.

At the end of each year, the art world – and industries such as fashion and entertainment – descend on Miami Beach in early December for a host of art fairs. The most important of these is Art Basel Miami Beach. Art Basel is usually held a week after Thanksgiving in the US, but on the 2023 calendar, it falls a week later than usual. Two other notable ABMB-affiliated satellite fairs are Untitled Art, which sets up tents on the sand overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and NADA Miami, which takes place in Miami itself.
