JAMES POSTILL: BETWEEN REALISM AND ABSTRACTION

James Postill is a Canadian artist who has been painting professionally for about ten years. One of his most recognizable works is paintings in which the artist depicts the distortion of shape, color, and light through a car window in rainy weather. James Postill’s idea is that his images should evoke a feeling of comfort and protection from external factors.

Postill’s work creates a bridge between realism and abstraction in two ways: combining a focus on raindrops and streams with blurred and foggy objects to create a sense of depth; depicting traffic lights, cars and building shapes that seem to melt and flow through a rain curtain.
