Each year the World Art Awards selects the 20 Best Galleries And Museums on the globe; only one museum or gallery per country per year. Among other criteria, selections are based on years established, industry reputation, location, size, socially relevant exhibits, motivational and educational programs, represented artists as well as artist, client and visitor references.

World Art Awards: “In our Top 20 for 2023, we chose The Uffizi Gallery, over 140,000 sq ft, and some contemporary art galleries much smaller. We selected some European historical museums with art and antiquities going back thousands of years. To balance, we selected some very new and contemporary hotspots in diverse countries and cultures representing important young work, from painting to digital to photography to sculpture. We decided on large, modern art centers in Ghana and Zambia. In China / Hong Kong, we opted for a boundary-pushing contemporary facility with an influential international presence. In Israel and Latvia we went with stunning underground crypt and subbasement venues which are cherished tourist attractions.”

World Art Awards: “Our Best in Italy is The Uffizi Gallery, the revered art museum located adjacent to the Piazza della Signoria in the Historic Centre of Florence in the region of Tuscany. We feel it’s the most important Italian museum, the most visited, largest and best known in the world. They exhibit a collection of priceless works, particularly from the period of the Italian Renaissance. Giotto, Simone Martini, Piero della Francesca, Beato Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Botticelli, Mantegna, Correggio, Leonardo, Raffaello, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, as well as masterpieces of European painting, especially German, Dutch and Flemish.”

MORE ON THE MUSEUM:

The Gallery occupies the entire first and second floor of the large building built between 1560 and 1580 to a design by Giorgio Vasari: it is one of the most famous museums in the world for its extraordinary collections of ancient sculptures and paintings (from the Middle Ages to the modern). The collections of fourteenth-century and Renaissance paintings contain some absolute masterpieces of art of all time; European, German, Dutch, Flemish, and many Italian. No less important in the panorama of Italian art is the collection of ancient statuary and busts of the Medici family.
